Guide to the Orchid Festival near Des Moines
The annual Orchid Fest is always a sight to see. With these special flowers blooming in style, there are a number of exotic orchids on display at the annual fest, with many available for purchase, too.
Join Reiman Gardens for this year’s exciting annual gathering. We’ve put together a guide to this year’s Orchid Fest, so you know everything there is to know before heading out to see some of these special and exotic flowers.
Orchid Fest Need-to-Know
Exotic orchids will be on display, with a variety of species and colors available for purchase on both days of the festival. The fest spans two days, Saturday, February 9th, and Sunday, February 10th, with both days at Reiman Gardens running from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
Orchid Fest is free for members and Iowa State University students, with tickets on sale for the general public, too. No registration is required for the event.
A members-only Orchid Fest reception takes place Friday, February 8th, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This exclusive gathering offers members the chance to purchase orchids the night before they are available to the general public. You’ll also be among the first to see the new orchid display in the conservatory while munching on some tasty hors d’oeuvres.
Exploring the Fest
While you’re at the Orchid Fest, be sure to check out the live butterflies from around the world, found in the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing. The Hughes Conservatory will also be open, and the gift shop is the place to go for unique items.
Best of all, the Central Iowa Orchid Society will have a question and answer booth, giving experienced growers and novices valuable information about care and keeping of orchids. It’s the best way to learn about these flowers and what they have to offer.
