2018 Ford Explorer

With seating for seven, powerful performance, and a large cargo area, the 2018 Ford Explorer is a great car for Urbandale and Clive drivers to own. The team at Charles Gabus Ford has compiled this comprehensive review of what the Explorer offers and to give you an idea of what it’s like to be behind the wheel.

Read on below to learn more about the Explorer engines, cargo space, and convenient technology features.

Powerful Performance

There are three available engines to choose from, with engines capable of handling everything from the daily commute to pass-and-merge highway driving. The standard engine is a 2.3L EcoBoost®, which produces 280 horsepower. It’s available with four-wheel drive for additional traction.

The 3.5L V6 engine offers a bit more power, producing 290 horsepower. With the variable control of technology known as valve cam timing, this engine optimizes performance to properly match driving conditions. Last, but certainly not least, is the 3.5L EcoBoost® engine. This pavement-shaking engine provides 365 horsepower, standard in the Explorer Sport and Platinum trims.

Interior and Cargo Space

Inside the Ford Explorer, there’s plenty of room to stretch out, and both short and long drives can be comfortable. For those seated in the front, there’s 41.4 inches of headroom and 42.9 inches of legroom. This is spacious enough even for those above six feet tall. Third-row passengers have 37.8 inches of headroom and 33.3 inches of legroom.

The 2018 Explorer is also roomy when it comes to cargo. Total cargo capacity checks in at 81.7 cu. ft., and there’s plenty of space to haul all that stuff you’re bringing along, from hiking equipment to chairs to grocery bags. Behind the third row, there’s a deep cargo well with space to hide items of a certain size. If your hands are tied while carrying cargo to the back of the Explorer, the available hands-free liftgate opens things up without having to put items on the ground.

Ford Explorer Tech Features

The base edition of the Ford Explorer gives you a 4.2-inch touchscreen and Bluetooth® technology, which can make choosing songs or reaching out to friends and family via hands-free phone calls a breeze. The SYNC® 3 system is an available feature, and it’s a good one to have. The smartphone-like 8-inch touchscreen includes a navigation system and has voice-activation capabilities.

The available Ford Safe & Smart™ Package provides a long list of convenient features. This system will alert you if drifting from a lane is detected and carries the adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning system. This package includes a Blind-Spot Monitoring System with Cross-Traffic Alert, which can pick up on what’s going on around you when backing up or when attempting to change lanes.
